Postcard from the Edge
Happy March. This is the twenty-seventh issue of Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit — it’s just like all those other email newsletters, except it’s trying real hard not to think about it.
My protective media bubble continues to fail at its one job of blacking out news of the outside world, with the deluge of atrocities invading my consciousness everywhere I look. (It’s probably my fault for not deleting my social media apps and stabbing my eyes out already.) But I’m on vacation right now, so I’m choosing to ignore everything a while longer — if not for the month, then at least for today…
Medieval times

Except, of course, it’s sort of impossible to tune out “political” coverage these days, because when you blow up everything in America, the blast radius tends to reach every American.
I always imagined that the “great” American past that all the MAGA dipshits couldn’t wait to get back to was an idealized/fantasy version of the country from the 1950s or even the 1980s. But the relentless (and frighteningly clumsy) rollbacks on civil rights, the rule of law, basic health and science, and common human decency have been so medieval, now I think the dipshits won’t be happy until they drag us all the way back to the Middle Ages.
But like I said, we’re not talking about that today. How about some holiday pics instead?
St. Paul’s Cathedral
On my way to Stockholm for work next week, I decided to stop off in London for the weekend to catch up with my nephew who is studying here.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever visited St. Paul’s Cathedral before. (Possibly during a class trip in the eighth grade?) But it was close to the hotel and my room also had a copy of T.E. Lawrence’s Seven Pillars of Wisdom in it. (“But did he really deserve a place in here?”) So, off I went on a scavenger hunt.
Nice spring weather. No crowds. Pub after. Mission accomplished.
Other rabbit holes
60-hour work week. In order for humans to reach the human-less future that all the tech bros have a massive boner for, Google’s Sergey Brin recommends his employees should be in the office “at least” every weekday and that “60 hours a week is the sweet spot of productivity”. Here’s “A reminder of what these fuckers think a ‘working week’ is”.
15-minute FU. Speaking of tech bros, their bright ideas, and how much they value your time here on Earth: “HP deliberately adds 15 minutes waiting time for telephone support calls”.
Deeply fake. My dad keeps sending me Chinese propaganda videos from this YouTube channel that tries to impersonate Elon Musk. When I told him that the videos were obviously fake, he thanked me for pointing that out — but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to watch them (or forwarding them to me). He says, even if the Musk part is fake, the facts in the video are real.🤷
And that’s it for this month’s edition. Try not to go crazy out there.
